FAQs
Our process
- Dreamcard takes your standard bank-issued plastic credit and/or debit cards and converts them into custom metal (stainless steel or gold) cards.
- We transplant the EMV chip and magnetic strip from your original plastic card and add them to your new custom metal card, so all detailed information remains the same.
- Upon receiving, you will have a fully functioning metal card. The Tap and Pay feature will not work with the metal cards, but you can use your smartphone for that.
How we do it
- The only way to convert your existing plastic card into our metal version is by shipping us your current card. We then create your new customized version and transfer all data from your old card to your new metal card. Using patented technology (first of its kind), we remove your EMV chip from your original card and transfer it onto your new personalized metal card.
- Please note, once we remove the EMV chip from your original plastic card, that card will no longer be functional. You will only be able to swipe with it. You will then use your newly created metal card moving forward.
- Removing the EMV is optional, but without the EMV chip on your new metal card, your card will not work on the new POS machines that require you to insert your card. It will only work by swiping the card at these terminals.
Will my card work at ATM machines and everywhere else?
- It is not recommended to use metal cards in ATM machines or any machines that requires the full and complete insertion of the card into the reader. Metal cards tend to become stuck in the rollers due to their thickness and might not eject properly. • Your original plastic card will still work in the ATM machines without the EMV chip. These machines will simply read the information from the magnetic strip on the back of the plastic card. It is preferred to use your old plastic card or smartphone to access these types of ATM machines.
- In the event that your metal card does get stuck in one of these machines, simply walk into that branch and claim your card using your ID.
- Your metal card should work everywhere your plastic card works. The only difference is the housing for the EMV chip is no longer sitting in your plastic card but is contained within your new metal card. Remember, your credit card functions from the EMV chip and nothing else.
Does the Tap and Play function still work?
- No, it will not. But you can always use your smartphone to enable the Tap and Play function if this is something you use often.
- The Tap and Pay (contactless) feature is very tricky. Some of the antennas are actually in the plastic card themselves. Some are only contained on the EMV chip. It is difficult to tell without removing the EMV chip first.
- We are currently researching various technologies that enable the transferring of Tap and Pay functionality. Unfortunately, at this time we do not have one.
Does the Magnetic Strip work?
- Yes, by simply transferring the EMV chip and/or magnetic strip from your old card, the data is transferred.
- Some POS machines (usually the older ones) could have a hard time reading the magnetic strip since it is on a metal card. It may have to be swiped 2-3 times for it to be read properly. In some rare instances, it might not be read at all. This is a common problem with older POS card readers since they were designed to only read plastic cards.
